Maintenance strategy for alcohol based fuel transfer pump after use

Alcohol based fuels are widely used in industrial boilers, commercial kitchens, and other areas due to their clean and environmentally friendly characteristics and good combustion rate. As the core equipment of the conveying system, the stable operation of the alcohol based fuel pump is directly related to the stability and performance of the entire feeding system. Due to the volatile, corrosive, and soluble characteristics of alcohol based fuels, the pump body needs to undergo systematic maintenance measures after use to prevent performance degradation caused by residual media and extend equipment service life.

1、 Instant cleaning after operation: blocking the corrosion chain of the medium

The alcohol substances in alcohol based fuels have strong solubility, and if there is residual liquid in the pump body after shutdown, it will continue to corrode metal parts. For example, the pump body made of carbon steel is prone to electrochemical corrosion under long-term immersion in alcohols, forming rust products that block the flow channel; Rubber seals may expand and deform due to alcohol penetration, leading to seal failure. Therefore, the following operations should be performed immediately after shutdown:

At first, close the inlet and outlet valves and drain all residual fuel through the discharge port at the bottom of the pump body. If there are blind spots at the discharge port, a compressed air pipeline can be connected for blowing, and residual liquid can be driven out by the airflow. Secondly, wipe off the spilled fuel outside the pump body to prevent it from seeping into the motor junction box or control cabinet and causing a risk of short circuit. Then, check the sealing surfaces of the connecting flanges of the pump body. If any traces of fuel leakage are found, tighten the bolts or replace the sealing gasket in a timely manner.

2、 Key component maintenance: prevent pre performance degradation

Mechanical seal maintenance is the core link in the maintenance of alcohol based fuel pumps. Alcohol based media can reduce the viscosity of lubricating oil, leading to insufficient lubrication of mechanical seal end faces and exacerbating wear. When disassembling the sealing component, it is necessary to observe the contact surface between the moving ring and the stationary ring. If there are scratches or uneven wear, an oilstone should be used for grinding and repair to restore its flatness. At the same time, check the elasticity of the spring. If the spring undergoes long-term deformation or breakage, it needs to be replaced with a new product of the same specification. When assembling, apply non alcohol lubricating grease on the sealing end face to form an oil film at the moment of start-up.

The inspection of the bearing system cannot be ignored either. The bearings of alcohol based fuel pumps need to withstand both radial and axial forces, which can lead to increased clearance after long-term operation. By manually rotating the pump shaft, the smoothness of the bearing rotation can be sensed. If there is any jamming or abnormal noise, the bearing raceway and rolling elements need to be disassembled and inspected. For open bearings, it is necessary to clean the old lubricating grease with gasoline and refill it with alcohol free lithium based grease; For sealed bearings, if abnormal temperature rise is detected, they need to be replaced as a whole.

A cleaning plan for overcurrent components should be developed based on the cleanliness of the medium. If the transported alcohol based fuel contains impurities, abrasive wear will form between the gear tooth surface and the inner wall of the pump body, resulting in widened gaps and increased leakage. At this point, it is necessary to disassemble the pump body and use a non-metallic brush dipped in alcohol cleaning agent to scrub the gears, shaft sleeves, and pump chamber, removing corrosion products and particle deposits attached to the metal surface. After cleaning, it is necessary to blow dry with compressed air to prevent residual moisture from causing secondary corrosion.

3、 Long term shutdown protection: building a corrosion barrier to prevent corrosion

When the pump unit needs to be stopped for a long time, protective measures should be taken to block the contact between alcohols and metals. At first, inject mineral oil containing rust inhibitor into the pump chamber to ensure that the oil level covers the top of the gear and forms an oil film protective layer. Secondly, insulation testing should be carried out on the motor winding. If the insulation resistance value is lower than the standard value, it needs to be dried before spraying insulation paint. Then, place the pump assembly as a whole in a dry and ventilated room to avoid accelerating metal corrosion in humid environments. If there is a risk of alcohol volatilization in the shutdown environment, anti alcohol plastic film can be wrapped on the surface of the pump body to reduce the adsorption of medium vapor.

4、 Maintenance records and fault prediction: achieving full lifecycle management

Establishing and maintaining records is an important means to enhance the performance of pump units. After each maintenance, detailed records of the operation content should be kept, including cleaning time, replacement part models, and testing data. By analyzing historical records, high-frequency fault points can be identified, such as the average service life of a batch of seals, in order to develop spare parts procurement plans in advance. At the same time, combining vibration monitoring and temperature inspection technology, real-time evaluation of the operating status of the pump unit is carried out. If abnormal temperature rise or vibration frequency deviation of the bearing is detected, the maintenance cycle can be adjusted accordingly, transforming passive maintenance into active prevention.

The maintenance of alcohol based fuel transfer pumps should be carried out throughout the entire operation cycle of the equipment. By immediately cleaning and blocking the corrosion of the medium, deeply maintaining key components, constructing a shutdown protection barrier, and recording management system, the failure rate of the pump unit can be significantly reduced, and it can continue to perform effectively in the scenario of alcohol based fuel transportation.
