The current development status of mechanical reciprocating pumps

Reciprocating pumps are a type of pump machinery that appeared early and were once used in the industrial sector. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, M. Westphal and H. Berg from Germany made outstanding contributions to the research on the fundamental theory of reciprocating pump technology. Berg's book "Piston Pump" was a sexual work on the principle of reciprocating pumps at that time. The analysis and formulas related to pump valve motion, the laws of pressure changes in the hydraulic cylinder during suction and discharge processes, and the calculation of inertia head values in the suction pipe in this book are still cited today. But in the mid-20th century, newer centrifugal pumps, rotary pumps, and others replaced reciprocating pumps in many applications. The main reason is that they have a simple structure and strong universality. As a result, the technical foundation theory and research and development of reciprocating pumps have been stagnant for a long time, especially in terms of basic theory. Compared with reciprocating machinery such as internal combustion engines and piston compressors, as well as power pumps such as centrifugal pumps, the gap between reciprocating pumps is quite large.
